D’UH JOSCHKE

Ha’aretz reports the following from Israeli Foreign Minister Shalom’s meeting in Brussels with the EU’s council of foreign ministers:

German Foreign Minister Joschke Fischer said he had the impression that Israel feels ostracized. “I was astounded by the Israelis’ feeling of isolation,” he said.

Apparently, Fischer was also “shocked” by revelations that Germany was involved in the Holocaust and “flabbergasted” by reports that most people are unable to pronounce his first name.

What he would not have been so surprised about is this:

French Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin led the pro-Palestinian line during the talks between Shalom and the European ministers.
