One of Those Weeks

“A wiser feller than myself once said, ‘sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes the bar, well, he eats you.’”

- The Stranger, The Big Lebowski.

And so it has been for me over this past week. A near fatal car crash jolted my senses, and a database crash has possibly wiped out half a year of my blog posts.

The former incident has taught me to drive more defensively; the latter has taught me the importance of backing up my work.

I have also been seriously considering getting my own domain name and host (something I have been thinking about for a while). This is not a reflection of any dissatisfaction with blogfather Gary – I truly appreciate his tireless work. It is rather a product of the realization that I should be more responsible for this blog. Besides, it is not fair to lump all of the work on his shoulders.

But this entails many decisions, like:

  • What hosting service should I use?

  • What blogging software should I use? I like MT but now they are charging alot of money for a supported version.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
