Nothing in Return
Among the top recipients of US aid each year are Egypt and Jordan.
Egypt – Out of a US foreign aid budget of about $14 billion in 2003, Egypt was the second largest recipient with $1.3 billion in military aid; $615 million for social programs.Jordan – Got $250 million in economic support; $198 in military financing.
You would think after receiving that amount of money, the Egyptian and Jordanian governments would at least have the decency to express their condolences to the US after the passing of former President Ronald Reagan. Yet, apparently not a word from either country in the wake of Gipper’s death. In fact, even an Arab newspaper admits that Israel was the only Middle-Eastern country to pay tribute to him.
I hope the US realizes who are its friends..and who are not.
Update: I have been reliably informed that The Khaleej Times is not, strictly speaking, an Arab newspaper. It is, however, from the United Arab Emirates.

The Khaleej Times isn’t really an “Arab newspaper” – it’s the newspaper of the South Asian community in the UAE.
Thanks for the correction, Jonathan.
