Merlin Says

There has apparently been a big controversy in Australia regarding the actions of a contestant on the reality show Big Brother.
Big Brother evictee Merlin Luck used his 15 minutes of fame last night to send a blunt and mute political message calling for the freeing of refugees.Luck threw Channel 10′s nationally televised Sunday night live eviction show into turmoil to make a political statement.
The 24-year-old from Sydney, who a show spokesman said came to Australia from Germany and spent seven years as a refugee, arrived on stage after being evicted with his mouth taped shut.
He also revealed a sign, fashioned from black tape on a piece of white sheet which read “Free Th Refugees (sic)”.
Luck refused to talk and sat on the couch next to host Gretel Killeen holding the sign.
“This segment is five minutes long; are you going to speak at all,” she asked.
The record company employee refused to reply. The show, which airs live around the country, switched back to the housemate and to a commercial break while producers and Luck’s father tried to convince him to speak.
During the commercial break Big Brother psychologist Carmel Hill and executive producer Kris Noble attempted to encourage Luck to set aside the protest but after the break Luck had left centre stage.
Ms Killeen said she would have liked to have spoken to Luck about the issue and found his stance aggressive.
The other housemates claimed they were unaware of Luck’s plans.
Writing implements are not permitted in the secure compound. A source close to the production said Luck could have secreted the black tape after it had been given to contestants to undertake a task.
After the show, Luck continued to be counselled by the program’s psychologist.
Merlin Luck? That is his real name? And I thought Coco Cox was bad (actually, I still think it is bad).
And speaking of protests, Imshin articulates her thoughts on Mr Green shirt. Which has inspired this:
