Quote of the Day

“Lo Tirtzach” (You shall not Murder)

– The Ten Commandments.

Yes, I think it bears reminding after this latest outrage in Iraq, that the terrorists who think they are doing G-d’s will are in fact going against the very fundamental principles laid down by G-d.

By the way, notice how the commandment is “You shall not Murder” and not the popular (but mistranslated) “You shall not Kill.” Murder is murder, but killing is permitted only if it is done in the context of self-defence, or to prevent someone from murdering someone else.

Some Jewish commentators hold that the commandment not to murder is actually a commandment not to kidnap. I’m glad you posted this, but the point everyone keeps missing is simply that the ones who behead their captives (and commit many other crimes in the name of their “god”) simply do not share in any way the values that we hold. And one of their chief charges against Jews is precisely that we “love life” too much.

Why do you underscore out “God” in your posts? Is it an anti-spam thing?

It goes back to my days at school where I learned not to spell out G-d’s name. Ok, so G-d isn’t G-d’s name exactly..but it is a word to refer to Him.

    Does anyone else do this?
