Starting from tonight is the Jewish fast day of Tisha Be’av, the saddest day in the Jewish calendar. It is a day that all manner of tragedy has befallen the Jewish people, including the following:

And here is something eery. Tisha Be’Av literally means the 9th of Av, since it falls on the 9th day of the Hebrew month of Av. Av is the 11th month in the Jewish calendar. So the date of Tisha Be’Av can be written as 9-11.
