Terror Conference

The Palestine Solidarity Conference is being held in Sweden from September 7th until September 11th. It is organized by The Palestinian progressive youth union (PPYU), RKU (Revolutionary communist youth) of Sweden, and The Sports Club Proletären FF.

A quick read of its timetable reveals many discussions on “fighting occupation” and “resistance.” And there is no doubt what they mean by this. Just consider the timetable:

Day one, Tuesday the 7th of September

Theme: Solidarity with Palestine

- Opening ceremony

- The right to fight occupation

- Resistance: definition and the range of Practice

- The Palestinian Issue and the International human Low

- The new Global Regime changes and the effect on supporting the nations resistance

Day two, Wednesday the 8th of September

Theme: The strategy for resistance

- The Palestinian resistance against the Zionist occupation

- The American double standards mixing between resistance and terrorism

- The youth movements role in facing the gradual global challenges.

- The popular and international solidarity with the Palestinian national struggle.

Clearly, the conference participants consider the terror attacks in Israel to be resistance.

But Israel is not singled out. Consider the timetable for day three:

Day Three, Thursday the 9th of September

Theme: The fight against US-Imperialism

- The general fight against imperialism and the struggle for national independence.

- The resistance against US-imperialism in Iraq

If you support the terrorists, you are a terrorist. Who knows..perhaps they are even raising funds to support the “resistance.”

It is important that we contact the Swedish government and alert them to this conference, and its agenda. You can find the contact information of the Prime Minister and other ministers here.

I passed this on to a friend in Sweden. Thanks for the heads-up.

Sigh. What saddens me most about this posting is not the palpably passionate racism behind it, but the fact that the author seems so stubbornly set against considering how those on the other side of the aisle might view the issue.

Look at it this way: Even if you -are- convinced that Palestinians and those who support the rights of Palestinians are your mortal life-long enemies, knowing and understanding that enemy and their feelings and motivations can only help you.

You’re looking so hard for terrorism in even the most innocent Palestinian gatherings and media, with no views from outside to provide perspective, that you’re finding terrorism wherever you look. You’re painting the world in stark black and white… This is precisely the mindset that spawns and supports terrorism.

(For whatever it’s worth, I’m not a Palestinian, I’m not a Middle East activist of any flavor. I’m an outsider who knows wonderful human beings in Israel and in Palestine, who’s saddened to see yet another disturbingly casual instance of this destructive tunnel-vision extremism. It’s the same disease that appears on both sides of the controversy, and it’s such a shame that the more reasonable majority on both sides have to pay the price.)

    Good luck.

    Sean
