Respect

The Sauds have issued a warning to foreigners to respect their holy month of Ramadan.

Saudi Arabia warned foreign residents Wednesday they must respect a prohibition on eating, drinking and smoking* in public during daylight hours in the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Which is fair enough. Because as we know, Muslims respect the holy days of others.

* I assume it is ok for a foreigner’s charred remains to be smoking.

I was thinking of Yom Kippur…

Of course, Muslims require others to respect Ramadan, e.g. by not fighting – even though they themselves are not prevented from fighting during Ramadan.

There was an interesting article in this vein on LGF today: http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=13092_John_Quincy_Adams_Knew_Jihad
