If I Were a Rickman..

Hollywood actor Alan Rickman, known for mostly playing villains and jerks in the movies, may not be such a good actor after all. There is a strong chance these roles were not such a stretch for him.

Alan Rickman is about to become the latest Hollywood star to light the blue touchpaper on the powderkeg that is Arab-Israeli politics.

He is working on a play about Rachel Corrie, pictured right, the American “human shield” who was crushed to death by an Israeli bulldozer as she tried to prevent it destroying a Palestinian house in Rafah last March.

The play, My Name is Rachel Corrie, will open at the Royal Court next year, and is based on detailed diaries and letters written by Corrie before her death. It has been fully authorised by her family.

Rickman, above, is collaborating with the journalist Katherine Viner on the script, and has also agreed to direct the finished article. A former Labour Party donor, he is thought to be sympathetic towards the Palestinian cause.

Ya think?

Update: Shai has met the guy in real life and confirms it – he really is a jerk.

  1. I love him! His political opinions have nothing to do with his job, he’s an actor. And a good one!! He’s one of my favorites..

  2. And who said directing RAchel Corrie got anything to do with his political opinion? He might just direct it because of the story..

  3. Zozo4Palestine

You’re only slamming his acting because he’s anti-Israhelll… hilarious. I can’t wait for you guys to be wiped off the map ^_^ I will then go and dance the dabke on it’s soil <3 Palestine <3

    1. Small suggestion for ya, If you want to sound tough, drop the emoticons. It just doesn’t have the same affect when we think the person who wrote this is a 12 year old Hello Kitty sporting girl.

  4. You missed the point, it’s obvious the Ms. Scarlett didn’t do it for the money per se, and I get that it might sound good that she was giving Palestinians a day job on their own land (how noble!) though I would suggest a joint venture of an Israeli company on *Palestinian land* would have been less suspect. Have you even considered how white *Australians* treated the indigenous peoples… the Aborigines? I know your history. What do you call Israel’s confiscating land, resources, homes, livelihoods of native Palestinians? Or is that somehow different, I wonder?
