It would be a mamzer if the wife had been committing adultery and was its biological mother. But since according to biblical law, a man can have two wives, it's not a mamzer. Just a scandal. The poor little boy. And I feel sorry for the couple's other children too. Their parents are in jail, their dad's been sleeping with their "aunt," their mother went berserk . . . D, you are so spot on with your take on it! I almost laughed but... Haaretz just loves these stories... when they're about religious Jews, don't they!?? The thing I found most interesting in the story was how the adults involved (as twisted and sick as they might be) were most concerned about doing "right" by the child... a mamzer(?) ... poor kid!
