Harry’s Near Miss

This morning, my mate and fellow anglo-Israeli blogger, Harry, got stoned on Road 443, the Jerusalem-Modi’in highway. We are all very relieved that he’s ok. Baruch Hashem.

Harry was extremely lucky. A stone thrown at a moving car can cause serious damage. My wife’s friend Danielle was hit in the head by one. She almost died, but, thank G-d, survived.

What Harry does not state in his account of the attack was that this is not his first brush with stone throwing terrorists. It happened to him over a year ago.

As far as I am concerned, these stone throwers are terrorists, and not just “stupid kids” like one blogger would like us all to believe. Stones can kill, and these kids wanted to kill their intended victims, including Harry. Also, it would be nice to express your relief that Harry is ok before you launch into your political rhetoric.

Harry believes that his “years of political moderation might be over.” Good for him. I am also really impressed with Harry’s ability to recollect the music that was playing at the time of the incident (he did the same thing last time he got stoned by PLO Arabs, and on that occasion the song was “Divine Intervention”). You can’t stop the music..

It has always bothered me that kids with rocks are not viewed as the danger that they really are — sure, Tzahal against kids looks very one-sided, but there’s a reason they use rocks: they are cheap and they can kill. Just because it’s not high-tech doesn’t mean it’s a prank — it’s an attack. Glad to hear Harry is OK.

If kids were throwing rocks off of motorways bridges here in the UK down on to the cars below–the police would be there within 5 minutes. It’s no different to placing stones on train tracks in an attempt to derail said trains. One might think that the Palestinian police should be preventing its citizens from engaging in these activites, but we all know that’ll never happen.

Though if you’re throwing rocks at passing cars then there’s obviously a distinct lack of moral guidance at home.
