Calling it a Day

For a while now, I have subjected you, my readers, to quite ungracious pleas to comment more on this blog. I even took the radical step of allowing anonymous comments, and risking an onset of spam, the likes of which may never have been seen on a blog.

My pleas seem to have gone unnoticed. At first, I believed that most of you all agree with what I have to say, and that you have nothing to add. But how does this relate to my personal posts, like my Jerusalem story from yesterday? I thought that this masterpece of storytelling deserved far greater feedback.

I dunno. I am just feeling frustrated with all of this. Therefore, I think I will be hanging up my blogging boots indefinitely. Perhaps I will return some day; perhaps not. In the meatime, there are some really great blogs out there, many of which are fighting the good cause for Israel.

Peace.

Easy here, David. People (me) are lazy. That doesn’t mean you have to be. Oh, and happy badger day. Badger badger badger badger mush-room!

  2. Anonymous says:

Not lazy, Kyber, just frustrated. And the lack of comments is only part of it. After a while, blogging has become a bit of a chore.

I comment now and then elsewhere on other blogs but really not much. This is my first post here.

I enjoy reading your blog each and every day. You are bookmarked. Much of your content is original and your writing skills and humor are great.

Yes, it’s nice to be wanted but lack of comments does not equal disinterest. Please keep up this excellent blog.

    Shabbat Shalom.

when i reread my comments they just seem so stupid, so i usually erase them and figure the world is better without my blitherings. but i LOVE reading this blog, as well as people’s comments on it (including some, excuse me, moronic accusations/remarks people sometimes make, and your responses to them) pleeeaaaase don’t deprive me of that!!

(on another note, there’s not “i forgot my password” option for the reader accounts, and i have apparently forgotten mine)

Oh my God, what do I do now. I do understand. You post from yesterday was brilliant by the way. I don’t know why people don’t comment here. I would also get very frustrated if nobody ever commented on my blog. But you’re the best Israel blogger out there, the only blogger whose page I check *before* my morning work out, and I have had numerous people tell me directly how much they love reading your page. But of course, they don’t comment on your blog. What can I say, I would be frustrated too, and I am experiencing some negative energy towards your silent readers for allowing this to happen..

But I have at least always thought you’re the best, and I’m devasted to hear this. I hope you change your mind.

    C’mon David,

Don’t stop blogging. Really, this blog is brilliant, i’ve been reading it for ages, and it’s one of the very best!!!! I don’t comment often, because -as a previous poster wrote – i just find my comments silly sometimes, but it doesn’t mean i’m not interested!!!! Just give us another week, i promise i’ll start commenting more, and i’m sure others will too. C’mon give us another chance!!! Please!!!!

Well, I am! Tell you what, I’ll hang my blogging boots too (I’m too lazy to take them off first. That’s going to take a while) and we go rescue Saddam and take over the world. That’ll be fun. Well, you’ll be doing all the actual rescuing and taking over while I nap.

I’ve basically stopped commenting on any blogs. I feel like I read the blogs that I read b/c I value those individuals’ writing, but nobody reads those blogs to see what little old me has to say.

I almost did comment on the story with the car, but censored myself b/c your post was pro-Israeli culture and mine would have tried to temper that a little. I’ve always felt the same way about Israelis, that they do view each other as extended family and would go miles out of their way to help each other. But the exception to this, in my opinion, is driving. When driving, I feel that the Israeli culture is to cause accidents rather than give an inch. This has made me question whether the stereotype of “we are all one big family” is even true — think of the statistics of road accidents here.

    I hope you keep posting.

    Shabbat shalom.

David, your blog and Little Green Footballs are the only blogs I read on a daily basis.

You MUST keep up the fight. I promise that every day i read, Ill post a response now. Please keep it up. You put to words what I cant even say and thats a beautiful way of resistance.

Please, Ive even gotten my Jewish mother into your blog. You cant stop now!

Happy April Fool’s Day everyone (look at the order of the italicized letters in the post)

And I actually read all of the comments! Hey David, you’re doing a great job. Thanks for a great read and a good laugh.

  13. Anonymous says:

Nice one. I was afraid you were serious for a minute.

    That wasn’t funny Dave!

David, your blog is awsome, and I read it almost every day. I also link to your blog from my blogroll.

It’s true, however, that I have never commented on your posts. I agree with almost every post, and I often have a good laugh. It’s true that your former registration system made me think twice before commenting, and I finally never did. As a blogger myself, I know how much comments mean, but I have also learned that absence of comments does not equal disinterest.

Your often humorous posts are best read once, and the pleasure would fade in my mind if I were to have to write a comment afterwards. It’s selfish but true. I have also noted that the posts on my blog that get the least number of comments are those that are supposed to be funny. It takes away from it when you comment it!

I really hope you carry on with your great blog!!!

David, I read this blog every day, usually in the go — and I’m just slow on commenting (actually need to be to class in about 10 minutes right now). Your site is the most one of the most vital and enjoyable commentaries on life in Israel — here in America, it’s the best way I can get an accurate picture of a country across the world. I can look at the comments that have already been posted and see many people feel the same. Please come back!

no David don’t go! You are are my favorite ozraeli :) Seriously I read your blog everyday and really value your opinion and sense of humor. I will pledge to comment at least once/week if you come back.

  20. Anonymous says:

No! Don’t go! I read your blog everyday! I’m sorry I’ve never posted, I just can never think of something intelligent to add to the mix. As of now you are my second primary link to Israel (the first being my dad), so you can’t stop blogging!

I was really really hoping it was an April Fool’s Day thing, and then I went back and looked at the italicized letters. Whew!

Dave, it is bad enough without the Marty Roberts Show these past few weeks, but then to think there’d be no more Israellycool – what’s a Christian lover of Israel to do?

About commenting – I feel just the same as many others – nothing particularly intelligent or witty to add. But I will try! And again as others – I only read you and LGF each day, along with listening to Marty.

BTW, fuckanazi really should try to improve his (or her?) vocabulary. Repeating the same inane word over and over does nothing to emphasize the point – just makes the writer appear to have an adolescent obsession with the word “fuck.” Please get over it and grow up, fuckanazi (unless you really are a 15 year old boy.) Find a way to communicate that moves past mere shock value and says something of substance. C’mon – you can do it!

ell, I’ve read the comments, so I know it’s an April Fool’s joke — but it’s motivating me to tell you how much I appreciate your blog, anyway. I usually don’t post comments because I have nothing to add of value — and because so many people are already saying the same things better than I can. But I’m happy to add another “Yasher koach!” to the throng!

  24. Anonymous says:

ha! I admit I noticed the italicized letters, but I have a knack for that sort of thing. Nice job! A very good joke indeed.

  25. Anonymous says:

I suspected this was an April Fools joke immediately and read the comment pointing out the italics. I hadn’t noticed them. But seriously, you have mentioned wanting more comments before, so I’m taking that part of your post seriously. I’m with the others who mentioned they sometimes end up deleting their own potential comments. Sometimes I feel like what I’m saying doesn’t really add anything, and I don’t want to just start posting a bunch of ITA’s. But anyway, as I’m this very second beginning to think this comment doesn’t have much of a point, I’ll post it anyway. Your blog is one of my favorites!

    Shabbat Shalom!

Update: figured that out about ten minutes later. And just checked back and saw the italicized letters. The other reply is still sincere — but a great trick!

And to think I thought that I wouldn’t have to read about those fake sports like football, rugby and Australian football anymore. I was just getting excited when I realized that you were only fooling us.

Shucks, now I am stuck having to read this stuff again. ;)

I have to admit I was falling for it too……geez…..Im just getting over the Purim pranks.

However I am very happy you are not hanging things up, you would have been missed.

To David and all……Shabbat Shalom !!

Joke or not (hopefully yes) – I would miss your blog very much.

    David,

‘Posted by David on April 1, 2005 11:05AM’ ‘ before 12PM its April Fools, right?

But just in case you’re not joking – I do understand you wanting more out of your blog; that’s fair enough ‘ you put in a lot of effort. But I can’t quite work out why you’re so jacked off.

You posted your piece about the car alarm/faith in humanity at 3pm (your time?) but only hours later’you got great feedback from many regulars’.well before your last post, true?

I would have added my usual stupidity too, but was too busy running my multi million-dollar conglomerate over here in the antipodes.

But I check in today and see this ‘throw in the towel’ stuff.

Seriously, you have an enviable ability to communicate that not everybody has. There are many intelligent people who aren’t articulate and we look to those, like you, who possess the gift of putting things cogently .The central theme ‘promoting Israel , countering dis-information, thrown in with ample doses of humour (where appropriate).

But just who is the blog for? Is it for you or us?

If it’s for you , and you’re sick of it ‘ take a break. You can always do a Rabbi Lazer.

If it’s for us ‘ how dare you think of stopping!

You are destined for bigger, better things but don’t hang your blog yet. I have honestly never found better. Sincere thanks.

I run a blog which is highly successful according to web-server statistics, but has barely any comments.

I have been told this is because much of what I write warrants no reply. That is, ‘what can anyone say?’.

This does NOT mean no one is reading.

Can I ask what the primary motivation for comments is? Meaning, is it simply for the love of feedback or is it ratings or feeling like you are not making a difference or it isn’t worth your time? I know you can see who reads so you know people are reading. I find your site valuable and if you are to discontinue the blog ask that you please refer us to your #1 pick. How does your wife feel about the blog?

Thank you and keep up the good work.
