Nazi Neighbors
April 21, 2005 | Aussie Dave | Comments 5

A couple in Australia have been forced to take down a Nazi flag, which they had been flying in their backyard.
The couple, Darren Mackay and Jenni Duncombe, claimed that they had no idea what it represented, but flew it since their four-month-old daughter “liked its bright colours.”
Is anyone buying this?
Look, I realize that there are some extremly ignorant people out there, but unlike the flag, this excuse doesn’t fly. It is like someone claiming that they don’t know what a crucifix is.
But even on the off chance that this couple had mastered the art of ignorance, they were made aware of the flag’s sinister significance by neighbors, the RSL, and Jewish groups. Yet even then, they initially refused to remove it.
Let’s face it. Mr Mackay and Ms Duncombe are dumbasses, but most likely not the benign kind. They should just be thankful that their neighbor isn’t called Rabbi Fine.
Update: If this all sounds familar, it is because I reported on a similar incident late last year. In that case, which also occurred in Australia, the culprits also invoked the “ignorance” defence.

I wonder if this is the same couple? Morons, German and post-counseling.

I don’t buy it. This is the one most recognizable symbol of the past century. If this is for real, Australia needs to do something about the education kids are getting in school, because that means that this couple (two people, probably educated in different schools) have no idea what a swastika or the holocaust mean and have never heard about it in class. Sounds fishy.
Am I the only one who sees a pattern here: The flag is red, white, and black. Now, of what we can see, her shirt is, red and black…
What should I think of this? the baby did like those colors, but she curtainly could have chosen a lot of other ones (Egypt, Jordan, Syria… but then again, is that any better?), maybe the Yemanese, but once again… is that any better?
The last paragraph in the news article actually says
“The red Nazi flag, with its black swastika on a white circle, was the symbol of Adolf Hitler’s anti-Semitic German Third Reich, responsible for the slaughter of millions of innocent people.”
Just in case there are readers out there who don’t know…a bit redundant really…if they don’t know that they probably don’t (or can’t) read the news anyway.

Well i think they should be allowed to Flow the flag if they want to its still a free country, least i think it is. People protest to Hitler as if he was such a Murderer, but the Christians did the same thing in there Crusades and your allowed to fly a picture of Jesus . I feel its there choice not here Neighbors.
