Improved Commenting on this Blog
Aussie Dave | May 09, 2005 | 8 comments
A while ago, I received feedback regarding the commenting system on this blog, and the necessity for people to create reader accounts in order to comment. As a result, I allowed anonymous comments to make things easier.
While spam has not proved to be a problem, allowing anonymous comments has meant that many comments on this blog are not accompanied by a reader’s name.
I have just tweaked the commenting template so that now, readers can enter their name and email address before commenting. The only problem is that those of you who are logged in to a user account can no longer comment without entering your name and email, unless you are replying to someone’s comment. Why? I don’t know, but I think overall this situation is better.
Please let me know whether or not you prefer things this way. I will either keep this new system, or revert to the old one, based on your feedback.

Wow, yes that was awful. I think I tinkered around too much, and didn’t preview the damage. All is fixed now ( I hope).

Is there no way of having a ‘remember me’ checkbox? Failing that I guess I’ll use one of those utilities that automatically fills in forms based on certain criteria.

In this post of mine, I entered my NAME and I have no problem posting it.
If however, I hit the REPLY link to an existing post and enter my NAME there, it will not post the comment until i clear the NAME field.
