Yom Ha’atzmaut (Independence Day)

Here in Israel, the somberness of today gives way to the celebrations of Independence Day, which starts tonight and continues throughout tomorrow.

For more information on Independence Day, including what we do, history about Israel’s establishment, and other interesting facts about Israel, please refer to my post from last year.

Both tonight and tomorrow, I’ll be celebrating with some beers and BBQs. And don’t think the irony of celebrating Israel with quintessential Australian traditions is lost on me.

I’ll be bringing the digital camera, so hopefully I’ll make up for my lack of blogging tomorrow with some nice snaps for you.

If someone recorded them, it would be nice to post a clip of the bad reception Sharon received at today’s Chidon Hatanach (biblical scholar) championship today. That in addition to some of Avshalom Kor’s very sharp remarks throughout the show and the crowds biggest ovation when Gush Katif was mentioned. In comparison, applause for Sharon was tepid when he entered the hall and when he went onstage. And the only words to describe Limor Livnat’s expression throughout the broadcast are “sour puss”.
