Gestures

Ynetnews reports:
Israel to offer PA goodwill gestures
Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas are set to meet next week to discuss the principles agreed upon at the Sharm summit in February and to try to renew the peace process following Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and the northern West Bank. The last time the two leaders met was in mid-June.Meanwhile, Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported Thursday that Israel is planning to offer Abbas additional goodwill gestures in a bid to boost his position vis-a-vis the Hamas. The moves considered by Israel include the release of more Palestinian prisoners, opening up a safe passage between Gaza and the West Bank, removing Israeli forces from Palestinian towns, and allowing the return of wanted terror suspects expelled to Europe.*
Why is it that Israel is always making goodwill gestures, and receiving approximately zero in return? Actually, that’s not entirely true, because we do normally receiving something in return..such as another terrorist attack, on many occasions perpetrated by a recipient of above mentioned goodwill gestures.
We last saw a similar example of Israel’s over generosity when our government returned the body of a terrorist to Hizbollah, despite the fact that we received nothing in return, which was especially troubling since Hizbollah never return the bodies of our fallen unless we hand over hundreds of living terrorists.
I simply do not understand the Government’s thinking in these cases. It can only lead to more terror and bloodshed.
In my humble opinion, the only gesture we should be making towards the PA is this:

* including the killer of Rehavam Zeevi, an elected Israeli Government minister

Actually, David, that’s the Gesture I would return to our own government here in Israel for their ongoing endagerment of our own people and country.

Israel has always had an intelligent foreign policy. This time however, I must admit that I don’t understand why they are making all those concessions, all these goodwill gestures to the Arabs and getting nothing in return. A gift has to be merited. Here it is not. Israel is really the only nation winning wars imposed on its people by others and giving land in return for it.
Every time somebody is criticising Israel, i ask him to name one arab concession, just one. People then usually realize how one-sided this affair is. Israel has never got anything in return – except bloodshed and the worst image in public opinion you can have throughout the world.
(I think the above gesture should also be made to the Europeans)
