Well yeah. But that’s because everyone’s thinking that his own doctors “poisoned” him by giving him blood thinners that brought on this massive hemorrhage. No need to blame the Palestinians in that case.

The American Moderate Party (via Pajamas Media) opine that he is “well suited to succeed Ariel Sharon.” Many Israelis (me included) believe he is a political opportunist who does not have the credibility to lead the country.

I see no contradiction in these views – while I personally wouldn’t wish a stroke on anyone, the fact remains that when Sharon took over the country in 2001 Israel stood on the brink of an abyss. Since then he has helped us take a great leap forward.

All his destructive actions (breaking election promises, trampling over his own party, ignoring democratic process, wrecking the political system) were done for reasons which have never been made explicit. While most people can find something Sharon has done which they agreed with (the right liked Chomat Magen, the left liked the Gaza rout), it’s almost impossible to read the full scope of his actions in a way which indicates something other than opportunism.
