Cartoon News Briefs

  • At least 10 people have now been killed in protests in Somalia, Lebanon and Afghanistan.

  • In Iran, a crowd pelted the Danish embassy in Tehran with petrol bombs and stones for a second day. Iran has also cut ties with Denmark, but I expect they will impose more severe measures once they go nuclear.

  • In PA-controlled areas of Israel, masked gunmen fired on a picture of the Danish prime minister, and set fire to a mock Danish flag. By the way, ever wondered how the neo palestinians get these flags? Wonder no more.

  • After Muslims set ablaze the Danish missions in Syria and Lebanon over the weekend, the EU presidency issued a strongly worded warning to 19 countries across the Middle East that they are obliged to protect EU missions. Failure to heed the warning will result in..absolutely nothing.

  • Iraqis have burned the Danish flag in Baghdad, and Iraqi gunmen have called for the seizure and killing of Danes and the boycott of Danish goods. Demonstrators in Bangladesh burned a Danish flag on Tuesday during a protest. Thousands of protestors from the student wing of the party Jamaat-e-Islami, shouted “hang the cartoonists” and “boycott Danish goods”. I guess that is why many of these have been found killed.

  • Further protests erupted on Tuesday in Egypt, Yemen, Djibouti, Azerbaijan, and other places really hard to pronounce.

  • It seems that the murder of a Catholic priest in Turkey was linked to the cartoons.

  • Some New Zealand companies have expressed concern at the potential impact of a boycott resulting from publication of the cartoons in that country. In contrast, sheep around the country have breathed a deep sigh of relief.

  • Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has attributed the publication of the cartoons to an Israeli conspiracy motivated by Hamas’ election win. Slight problem with this theory – the cartoons first appeared in Danish daily, Jyllands-Posten, last September, and Hamas won the election a few weeks ago.

  • Still on the subject of Iran, it’s cartoon time everybody! Just submit your cartoon on the Holocaust. Points will be given for originality, creativity, and anti-Semitism. (I still find it amazing that Iran would run a contest centred on an event they claim never happened).

  • Meanwhile, an Indian artist has portrayed “Mother India” as a nude woman, angering the country’s Hindus. In response, the angry Hindus have rioted burned down embassies complained to police.

What does Iran think the Jews must have done? Seen the neo-Palestinian election results, then hopped into their magical time machine back to September, tricked the Danes into printing the cartoons, and then returned to the present time?

This is so outrageous that this could be the premise of a great science-fiction movie. Hmmm… Back to the Future IV?

I also thought of a solution to this whole cartoon mess.

BTW, thanks for the link to the source of the flags in Gaza – it warms my cockles to read this line:

“Abu Dayya sources some of his flags from suppliers in Taiwan, but he buys Israeli flags from a merchant in Israel”

Shooting at posters !! Now there is an intelligent response !!That, along with burning flags, offensive cartoon contests, etc,is sure to convince the people of the west of the seriousness of their cause…how sly,how ingenious!!
