Look at the paragraph Vetiten lanu in the Sehmonah Esrei of Yom Kippur. It ends by mentioning that the holiday is "zeicher litziat Mitzrayim." I think all the major holidays have an aspect of commemorating the Exodus.

Well, the first month in the Jewish calendar is Nissan (just to be pedantic) not Tishrei.

But anyway it's all nonsense since Jews never fast in thanksgiving - we eat (and drink). The only real fast which isn't about something sad and/or repentance is Ta'anit Esther - and that is a commemoration of the fast before the battle in that story.

Maybe Muhammad didn't understand that you can have a thanksgiving service without imposing pain and suffering.
