French Media and the Halimi Affair

Israellycool reader Grumpy Troll has given some more insight into the French media’s coverage of the murder of Ilan Halimi.

Here in France, the religion of Ilan Halimi’s killers is virtually unreported. No major French news agency has revealed that the murderers recited the Qur’an in calls to the family. There has only been Nicolas Sarkozy to say, at the National Assembly, that the murderers supported the Palestinian cause, an unreported fact. Don’t want to offend our peaceful Muslim community, do we? The one that called Sarkozy a “dirty Jew” during the riots.

There is, very much, a problem in France. If it had been a Jew killing a Muslim, there is no doubt that the media wouldn’t have missed the “detail”.

    It is partially bullshit.

I am French, and it was revealed by the police that the murderers were not strong supporters of the Palestinian cause : Sarkozy said that the police found documents for supporting the Palestinian cause and salafist documents in the place of the sequestration and the murder, but it is false, because there is only one blank document who has been found in the home of the parents of a suspect. So, for the moment, it is not a proof of the support of any political or fundamentalist cause by the murderers. Also, after the questionning of the suspects, it was revealed that the suspects don’t have any political culture or belief.

The real question, who has not been resolved for the moment, is if Ilan Halimi was really killed because he was Jewish. And that is the objective of the investigation of the police.

Please do excuse me, for I have missed the update on their political belief.

    Well, no problem.

With this affair, and the other murders (who are strangely forgotten…), there is more to hear of…

Hem, I correct, not murders but attempts of kidnapping (5, if I don’t make a mistake).
