Countdown to the Israeli Elections: 6 Days to Go

  • According to a Ha’aretz poll supervised by Professor Camil Fuchs, Kadima are set for 36 seats, a drop of 3 from last week. Labor are set for 17, and Likud have dropped 2 to 14. Which begs the question: is the Professor’s name for real?!
  • The Palestinians say they are indifferent about the Israeli elections. This, two weeks after Abbas endorsed Olmert. According to Cabinet Minister Nabil Sha’ath, all the Israeli parties “are rightists.” Given that all of the Jewish Israeli parties think Israel should actually exist, I could see why Sha’ath would consider them to the right of (palestinian) center.
  • A team of female Shas activists have travelled around the country, their objectives including to “enliven the election atmosphere in the streets.” As if Shas hasn’t achieved that already.
