Hatin’ Mickey

Newsflash: The Governor of Tokyo hates Mickey Mouse.

Tokyo’s governor has condemned Mickey Mouse as inferior to Japanese anime, the highly detailed cartoons that feature busty girls with big blue eyes.

Shintaro Ishihara made the remark while opening the Tokyo International Anime Fair on Saturday, which saw tens of thousands of fans strolling aisles packed with anime books, art, posters and a myriad of other souvenirs.

“I hate Mickey Mouse,” Ishihara said. “He has nothing like the unique sensibility that Japan has. The Japanese are inherently skilled at visual expression and detailed work.”

And here I was thinking that hating a cartoon character was pretty much impossible…unless you believe it is part of a Jewish conspiracy.

Ahhh, yes. Japan. They showed us how sensible they are/were. Take a wild guess when that happened. I’ll give you a hint – P Harbor. No wait, that’s too obvious… let’s just say Pearl H.

Anime is ugly compared to normal drawing styles. I can’t remember where I got it, but it was put quite nicely as such: Anime looks like the work of a disgruntled Disney employee who couldn’t draw properly and decided to declare his poor style of drawing a “style” of drawing.

On the subject of Japan… http://www.tau.ac.il/Anti-Semitism/asw97-8/japan.html

That’s a report on Anti-Semitism in Japan. Pretty interesting stuff.
