';As predicted, Israel’s entry in this year’s Eurovision song contest did not fair well, placing second last.
But before you despair, just consider who actually won the contest:
This is not a joke. A group wearing latex monster masks, and singing a song called Hard Rock Hallelujah, won Eurovision, bringing the contest to even greater levels of lameness than even I had imagined.
So while Israel did not fare well, the contest has lost all credibility anyway (assuming it had any to begin with).
The real losers of the evening were anyone watching this garbage.

Dave, it is worse than that. Israel’s total points tally was one vote of 4 points from France. This is really bad. As you accurately point out, the song matters very little, what matters is how many friendly nations each country has. The Baltic states, the Nordic states and the Balkans all form little voting blocks. However, as this is a phone vote now, this becomes a poll of support for foreign countries. For only one country to give any votes to Israel is very bad.

please don’t get dishartened, it’s not because noone likes Israel. Songs that have something extra about them do well, despite the voting blocks. And it’s not just Israel noone votes for, see the UK and France. Also Hungary is the only country that can’t expect any neighbour votes, although they did well last year (12th).

I didn’t watch much of the broadcast, but at one point while channel-flipping we came across the Finnish group doing their thing and I immediately told my husband that they would win. How could they not, with that uber-weird look?
Right, just when you thought this stupid competition couldn’t sink any lower- didn’t it “jump the shark” over 10 years ago? Time to put it out to pasture.

Well, I liked it. It’s a pity I missed the show - it’s usually incredibly lame with little boppy-poppy tunes - but a nice rock anthem like this - good stuff in my opinion.
As for the costumes, I guess you never saw Kiss or Iron Maiden in concert. These guys were good - they had a good tune and they played it well - what more can you really ask for?
But really, anyone who grew up in Europe (or the UK which somehow was in Eurovision-land before succumbing to any other Euro-crap) knows that the contest is nothing other than an excuse to trot out the worst any country has to offer in the bland pop mould. Watching the BBC commentary with Terry Wogan is much much more fun than watching it on Israeli TV, because its utterly clear that Terry (and everyone in his audience) knows its a load of crap and is having fun anyway.
As for Europe being antisemitic - welcome to the last 2000 years - this is a suprise?
