CNN are reporting that terror mastermind Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has been killed. The US are apparently waiting for the Iraqi Prime Minister to make a public announcement of the death before commenting on the report officially.

Updates (Israel time)

11.05AM: The Iraqi Prime Minister has confirmed that he was killed.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki confirmed his death at a press conference.

He told journalists: “Today, al Zarqawi was terminated,” drawing loud applause and cheers from those present.

11.15AM: According to US television, he was killed in an air attack on a house north of Baghdad. I must say I am surprised, since I expected him to die after either tripping over an untied shoelace of his tennis shoes and falling into a deep cave, or by shooting himself in the groin while trying to load his weapon.

1.30PM: Here is footage of the Iraqi PM announcing Zarqawi’s demise.
