No Rest
Here I am in sunny California. The weather is perfect. The family is all together, celebrating a birthday party. Children and adults alike are having fun on the water slide, swimming in the pool, and eating tasty BBQ meat.
Despite this, I am here, inside our relatives’ house, constantly checking the news back home. The rising Israeli casualties. The ceasefire agreement as we attempt to win decisively against an organization bent on our destruction.
This trip is for my brother-in-law’s wedding. A time of great joy, not to mention relaxation. And I am having fun. It is just that my fun is always accompanied by a sense of great concern for friends’ back home, not to mention the future of my country.
I cannot rest. I can only worry, hope..and pray.

Those of us who follow the news from far away are well aware how anxiety arousing it is to dread the news of the day. Hopefully your joyous wedding events will not be totally spoiled by the events of the Mideast.
I wanted to say something like commenter #2 (chicagosusanna) but I’m not great at that so I’ll just say – ditto to #2, and add that many of us who are not Israeli are also glued to the news media of our preference because of our deep concern for Isreal and her people.
The chicken was excellent.
Yesterday, Yud Tet of the month of Av of the foul year Tashsa”v (13th of August 2006 in the Christian calendar; 18 of Rajab 1427 in the calendar of the enemy) the people of Israel were betrayed by their leadership in a way unprecendented since the destruction of the Second Temple.
This is a day of mourining; This is the day evil and darkness won over goodness and light; the day Israel has capitulated for no reason whatsoever to a genocidal enemy; tje day the chosen leaders of Israel renegaded on the most basic vows to their people, their state, their nation and the ideals thereof.
It is a black day.

Don’t feel bad. I think it is pretty obvious by now that a conventional military response to terrorism is inadequate. It wouldn’t have made any difference how long the fighting went on on Lebanon. How much longer will our leaders keep beating this dead horse? How many more billions of our tax dollars are they going to throw down this black hole?
It would be far easier, less expensive, and less aggravating to find a more covert solution to these problems. In a nutshell, there are islamic jihadists b/c there is an overpopulation of unemployed, adolescent muslim males in the middle east, who blame their problems on Israel and the USA. Since the problem is both overpopulation and unemployment leading to unrest, the ideal solution would be to buy out the Halaal certified food production factories, & put additives into Halaal foods that are known to cause male and/or female sterility. Even if this action only resulted in a 10% decrease in the overall fertility of the arab muslim populations, that would help a lot in terms of causing labor shortages that would result in higher employment and higher wages, and therefore, fewer young men feeling useless with too much time on their hands. Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.
Maybe this sounds a little inhumane, to randomly sterilize a particular population without their consent, but is it any more humane to wait until they have overpopulated and overstrained their limited resources, and just start bombing them to death? No, I think my idea is a much better idea…. and cheaper, and more practical…. and it wouldn’t be as if the Israeli government would have to do anything directly. They could cut a deal with some Chinese companies that have halaal certification, to put the additives in the food and just pay them to do it, under the table. Cheaper than tanks, bombs, and jet fighters, I’m sure.
There are a number of native american herbs, for example, that were sometimes used to promote sterility. Stoneroot seed and wild carrot seed for example. Ideally, though, you’ll want to sterilize the men. Since Muslim women are not allowed to marry non-muslims, that would put a halt to their fertility as well as the men’s. The men could marry non-muslims, and that would simply result in more children, defeating the whole purpose of course…
