Wikipedia - The Fight Begins
As I suspected, no sooner had one of you written a Wikipedia article on Israellycool, that someone else has proposed it be deleted. The reason?
It is proposed that this article be deleted, because of the following concern:If you can address this concern by improving, copyediting, sourcing, renaming or merging the page, please edit this page and do so. You may remove this message if you improve the article, or if you otherwise object to deletion of the article for any reason. To avoid confusion, it helps to explain why you object to the deletion, either in the edit summary or on the talk page. If this template is removed, it should not be replaced.
The article may be deleted if this message remains in place for five days (This template was added: 29 August 2006).
If you created the article, please don’t take offense. Instead, consider improving the article so that it is acceptable according to the deletion policy.
[I was hoping they would try to delete the article on these grounds, since they should be the easiest to refute].
You know what you have to do.*
[Feel free to mention the numerous articles written about Israellycool (see Israellycool in the News in the left sidebar of the blog), television show mentions (such as Fox News, MSNBC), traffic to the blog site (currently ranked 234 out of all blogs listed in Truth Laid Bear), various blog award nominations (Weblog Awards 2005: 5th place in Best Middle East or Africa Blog category, 9th place Best Podcast category; 2004: 3rd place in Best Middle East or Africa Blog category; 2003: 3rd place in Best Crawly Amphibians Ecosystem Level Blog category), and the fact that Israellycool started the annual JIB Awards, now jointly run with the Jerusalem Post].

Update: The deletion notice has disappeared..for now. I am not too familiar with Wikipedia, but assume it disappeared automatically after more information was input in the article.

Do you know who wanted it deleted? I wonder if it was the same guy who succeeded in deleting us. Good luck to you.

Don’t bother (too much) with TruthLaidBear. I once saw Wikipedia delist a blog inside TLB’s top 25 as “non relevant”. I said it before (It was me), Wikipedia is partial against not-left-enough blogs. Make an effort, but please don’t take Wikipedia too seriously, they’re as rotten as most of Mainstream Media.

Same comment as everyone else. Wikipedia is full of smart asses. You’ll have to fight daily to protect your page from vandals.

The person who wanted it deleted seems to have a thing for getting entries deleted — including entries on a Russian rock band and other non-related, non-political entries. I think this person just digs deciding what is cool. While the deletion notice was removed and the entry updated (users who update an entry can remove the deletion notice if they address it in their edit comments), this same person immediately posted notices saying the entry is not formatted correctly and that some data is “not verified.” Frankly, in this case, I think its more a case of being hit by a “wikipedia snob”/cultural cop who gets off on deciding what is and isn’t “worthy” than a political issue — but who knows. In any case, this person needs a hobby. They are way too focused on the Israellycool — and other — entries. I think we all need to be vigilant and keep adding to the entry until this person grows tired of picking on this and moves on to an entry about something else. Or, like others have mentioned, maybe Wikipedia isn’t worth the hassle. Although, for me, its the principle of the thing now!
