Ha’aretz reports on the latest from Lebanese Prime Minister Siniora.

Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora said Thursday that a prisoner swap with Israel was being considered by his government but that “nothing has materialized.”

Siniora said Lebanon was “continuing the contacts” with Israel about a possible swap in which two Israel Defense Forces soldiers abducted by Hezbollah would be released in exchange for all Lebanese detainees in Israeli jails.

“The matter is being looked after,” Siniora told reporters in Stockholm. “There is nothing really that has materialized so this matter is going to be of considerable interest by the Lebanese government.”

So Lebanon is basically admitting that it is responsible for the kidnapping of our soldiers.

What I want to know is:

  • Where is the UN condemnation of a member state kidnapping soldiers of another member state?
  • Why aren’t more people picking up on these statements and holding the Lebanese government more accountable for the situation?
