Shmuley Boteach is at it again, this time dispensing his brand of “valuable” advice to Britney Spears.
Britney Spears has received some stern words of advice from a celebrity Rabbi.In an open letter to Britney, New York spiritual leader and author Rabbi Shmuley Botach shares tips including: “Once you become a parent, Britney, life gets really serious… We can all pretend that life is one big party devoid of responsibility.“And rarely being home, or coming home drunk, or letting your kids see you in a degraded state, will permanently scar your kids.”Shmuley continues, “Soon your boys will be surfing the Internet.“They’ll see a lot of photos of you in poses that no son should ever see their own mother… Try and be home with your kids… Cover up… Limit the visits to the nightclubs.”The spiritual leader ends his letter by saying, “I know you can get your life together, Britney.”
And I know you can get a life, Shmuley.
How about focusing on the important issues, and avoiding public arguments? If you really cared about the behavior of Wacko, Madonna, Britney, and company (and I don’t think their behavior is the major issue of our times), I am sure you have the means to reach them in private. Instead, you constantly choose to lecture them in public, forgetting that you, too, have children.
And I’m sure they’d be as embarassed as hell by your publicity seeking.

I’m sorry Dave, but I’m gonna have to disagree with you on this one, if only b/c I like his “Shalom in the Home” TV show.
I’m happy, Dave, that Shmuley’s scolding exposes Britney just as publicly as she shamelessly exposes herself. It is a good thing for people to see and hear a well-known person like Shmuley criticize her publicly, especially so now that she claims to have turned to the Jewish faith. It needs to be understood that Judaism does not condone her behavior. As far as major issues go, her kind of behavior really is a major problem today! She has a huge influence publicly, as you know. So what if Shmuley gets a little attention – better his way than hers! It needed to be said, and it needed to be said publicly. I applaud Shmuley, and I bet his children do too.
Dave, I am going to have to agree with you on this. Criticism should be done privately. This just makes the Rabbi look like he is a publicity whore and makes it a no win situation.

Hmm… Judaism and Britney Spears. I am already seeing a new chapter in Halacha dealing with the issue. Some sense of proportion will no go amiss with some people.

Good point! He does indeed have kids, (poor souls) Does he still have a wife or has she moved on to a less fame-whoring husband? (She was an Aussie, if memory serves)
