I don't think you guys can criticize him for making fun of terrorists. Stan, he mocks them for being horrible people, not for having bad English. There's really not more to it than that. But their English really is terrible.

Eremite. Hmm... High class.

On the other hand - maybe they meant ear mites (Otodectes cynotis)?

Sorry, but it comes from having two cats and a vet in the family...

Although I too came up with a lot of jokes when I read this obituary, there is something about mocking the dead that just doesn't sit right with me. I felt uncomfortable with myself.

There is a difference between the poor English of a non native speaker when it is in conversation or casual use, and poor English in a published web site of an organization.

I actually agree with Esra, this post left a bad taste in my mouth and I found no humor in it. Also you say your mocking the terrorists bad English and that is fine if you want to, but, I know I always have to stick up for my friends in Israel when others mock their English in various online video games I play with them. Overall just not digging this "feature" but everything else on your site is gold. :)

Esra'a,

I operate a democracy here, so you are more than entitled to your opinion. :)

However, I do disagree with you. I am mocking the terrorists, plain and simple. Whether or not they were brainwashed is immaterial. They killed (or planned to kill) innocent people, and deserve to be mocked. In most cases, their families were proud of their affiliations, so I am not that concerned about how they feel about my posts.

In any event, I am not mocking Islam in any way. I am mocking the terrorists' poor English.

Frankly, I don't see how this post differs from my past posts mocking terrorists. I do it all the time, and find it cathartic. A way to deal with my frustration at the way the world generally appeases the terrorists.

And no, you did not offend me in the slightest. I value your opinion, even when I don't agree with it.

Hey Dave,

You know how much I like and respect you, and I'm sure you know that I disagree with and hate these terrorist tactics as much as you do. It's wrong and it's disgusting that they target youth to carry out such shameful operations.

However I don't think it's right to mock the dead especially if these people were completely brainwashed... yes they are morons for doing what they did, but at the end of the day it's still someone's brother, someone's son, someone's lover who got killed (even if in the process they killed others). The above can be really hurtful to others.

I'm not saying you should be a tree-hugger and consider everyone's little feelings, I just feel like it discredits this otherwise brilliant blog. I'm a longtime reader and supporter of this place and I always recommend it to my Arab friends and colleagues, but I truly think that they'll find the above distasteful and most likely mark this blog as hateful or racist (which I know is not, but such posts can give certain readers that impression.)

I'm just being frank. Hamas is horrid and deserves to be mocked, same with Hezbollah whose TV channel welcomes you to "apply" to be a suicide bomber, but I don't think victims of their propaganda should be laughed at. They're kids. Young and stupid yes, guilty yes, but I think this type of thing can further widen the already big gap between us.

I hope this doesn't offend you and that it makes sense where I'm coming from.
