The Palestinians have shown that they do not want to live side by side with Israel. They want what Amadinejad wants and that is the total destruction of Israel. You cannot have peace talks with someone who wants you dead. It is way past time for Israel to respond to these terrorists. I am all for shutting off the water and electricity. They do not behave like human beings, therefore they should not be treated as such. Come on Israel, this nonsense has gone on long enough, show the Palestinians what has made you a great people and country.

Technically it is not a problem to stop rockets: divide the enemy land into squares and make them clear that if there is a rocket out of the square everything is grounded there. They want to live somewhere, aren't they? Garbage-in, garbage-out. The only point is that this will cause too much causalities and none wants to use such means.
The answer of Mr.Peres to this issue was: "Nanotech beats rockets". That is, cover all the area with hornet planes and knock down by artillery or whatever, everything that appears similar to launchers.

There is one problem with Israel taking strong action.
The action needs to be seen through to completion. Supposing Israel cuts off electric to Gaza. Eventually one side has to give in. If Israel re-instates electric and rocket attacks do not stop, this will be seen as a great victory for Hamas.
If Israel launches any kind of action against Gaza, there needs to be no doubt as to who won.
I'm not sure Olmert is capable of this kind of action.

Stan

P.S. Shanah Tovah to you and your family Dave. I am greatful for all the energy you put into this blog.

As an American, I am amazed and appalled at the weak responses Israel makes to these hideous attacks. I think the time is long past for the Palestinians to be driven into Egypt and Jordan and dropped off in the desert with water bottles and a hearty "Have a nice day."

Cutting off power, water, supplies, anything, should be done to a terrorist entity even without a single rocket being fired.

No. This is what needs to be done:

Capture at least the northern third of Gaza, toss its inhabitants southward, declare it an integral part of the State of Israel and send back in the Gush Katif residents.

And if attacks continue after that, do the same thing to the middle third of Gaza.

Still attacking after that? Bomb the remaining southern third to a crisp and let Egypt sort out the ones fleeing across the Rafiah border.

This should have been done years ago, certainly on the very day - within an hour - of Gilad Shalit's kidnapping.

It's time to wipe the smile off their faces.

My sister in law was doing her basic training in those tents a few months ago. Cut off power. Next rocket (to anywhere, even empty fields) cut off water. It's time to win a war properly. Time to really let slip the dogs of war.

I think Olmert is waiting for children to be killed before he allows a real response. In that way, he thinks the rest of the world would "understand" his position.
It is amazing that we have a prime minister who is willing to accept rocket attacks against his country without responding with anything but rhetoric.

I hope the wounded soldiers are all blessed with a full a speedy recovery.

Hopefully the Israeli govt will find a strong and fitting response to the Arab terrorists in Gaza...

The blood-thirsty palestinian terrorists cannot be allowed to terrorize innocent civilians in Sderot, our soldiers or any part of the Israeli population!
