Whereas people who do have large audiences, from Rush to Malkin to Coulter to Hannity to Josh Goldberg say stupid and callous things every day, and manage to maintain a large following by doing it.

These people have manipulated the whole security and foreign policy debate based on exaggerating irrelevancies for the last 6 years. Palestinians celebrating 9/11 will undoubtedly turn into, “See, I told you they’re a danger to us (the U.S.)” in the hands of a media wingnut – “Stay the course in Iraq”. 9/11 is distended to mythological proportions just to take advantage of the “conservatives strong on security, liberals weak” political point. Certainly for guys who follow Middle East politics closer you’d expect that the American spoon-fed “Arab politics for Dummies” approach is stock full of blunders that the Israelis have for the most part gotten past.

That said, I have heard some shows say “Happy 9/11″, albeit in a bit of a joking tone as if to say that they want the day off or that we should take it back from the terrorists and throw parties on the day. But I suppose that’ll have to wait until Moshiach comes.

And while Brolin’s joking was juvenile and in poor taste, you can find 5-10 items of similar poor taste on Fox News on any given night, just to name one source. I guess I should worry about every single annoyance or worry about none.

Of course in an idealistic universe when we’re all Gods, the worries of the smallest gnat will be as important as those of goliaths. Until then, of course, size matters.

Plus, if the US wants to remain the greatest superpower, it better learn to take a punch without flinching, much less whining like a baby. Take a look at how the Brits responded to July 7.

With all those despicable wars and atrocities last century, somehow 9/11 this century is the apple of everyone’s eye. Despicable? Ah yes, so many despicables to categorize, so little time. Did you know some 4 million or so died in the Congo in the last 10 years? Most Americans don’t – too busy being traumatized by 9/11.

Celebrating 9-11 is despicable, no excuses. Although you seem to have plenty, which speaks volumes about your character.

Yeah, it’s a shame that the only thing Palestinians can rejoice in is the destruction of the WTC. (Especially given the efforts Clinton made to try and make some progress). But I don’t really expect Palestinians to be happy with their lot or cheering the world on the other side of the pond – they’re not quite hooked into the financial establishment. And there hasn’t been much additional effort to bring them into the fold since 9/11, so I’m not sure why you’d be surprised they still celebrate it.

And while the world goes to hell in a handbasket, the worst thing in the world is that a liberal made a smarmy remark on the 6th anniversary of 9/11? Sorry, that’s moral irrelevance. Again, hundreds of thousands incarcerated for drugs, sitting in prison for years, and we make stupid prison rape jokes. Dozens of US soldiers die each month and 10 times that many are wounded, but as Rep. Boehner states, “It’s a small price to pay…” Isn’t that much more callous than a stupid 9/11 joke? But 9/11′s our baby, we have to dote over it.
