We can then discuss a Colorado professor who likes making provocative comments. Or perhaps a Berkeley student who holds leftist views.Whereas people who do have large audiences, from Rush to Malkin to Coulter to Hannity to Josh Goldberg say stupid and callous things every day, and manage to maintain a large following by doing it.These people have manipulated the whole security and foreign policy debate based on exaggerating irrelevancies for the last 6 years. Palestinians celebrating 9/11 will undoubtedly turn into, "See, I told you they're a danger to us (the U.S.)" in the hands of a media wingnut - "Stay the course in Iraq". 9/11 is distended to mythological proportions just to take advantage of the "conservatives strong on security, liberals weak" political point. Certainly for guys who follow Middle East politics closer you'd expect that the American spoon-fed "Arab politics for Dummies" approach is stock full of blunders that the Israelis have for the most part gotten past.

Well, Tom, Brolin & Streisand may be important in Hollywood, but I’m sure I’ve gone the last 2 years without hearing Brolin’s name at all, and I read quite a number of blogs & newspages.

I find it even less important than Charlie Sheen discovering WTC conspiracies, and that’s on the far side of irrelevancy. And while Desider is being a bit of a b****rd, he is right about Fox News. Take, for example, how they treated Chris Crocker. It's ok to make fun of his rant, but what Fox did was make fun of his sexuality. Not cool. (well, ok, liberals do it too with (M)Ann Coulter, but by her hypocritical stances, she kinda has it coming). And the sneering tones taken by the anchors and reporters (mind you, not the opinion shows, but the actual news reports) toward people they don't like (read: Democrats). That said, I have heard some shows say "Happy 9/11", albeit in a bit of a joking tone as if to say that they want the day off or that we should take it back from the terrorists and throw parties on the day. But I suppose that'll have to wait until Moshiach comes.

Problem is, what Brolin said IS being used as a platform to take potshots at liberals in general, and that, to a large extent, refers to me (excepting, of course, the issue of Israel, I’m a hard rightie on that). I think it's in poor taste to take shots at the conservative party over an issue -- Brolin -- that just isn't related. What Brolin said was stupid and callous. It can't be excused, nor should it be used as a platform for taking shots at FoxNews and (apparently) conservatives.

I take it you’re a liberal, Desider. (Not that Palestinians haven't carried out numerous terrorist attacks of their own, but hopefully you get the point - they didn't attack the US, they just applauded it).And while Brolin's joking was juvenile and in poor taste, you can find 5-10 items of similar poor taste on Fox News on any given night, just to name one source. I guess I should worry about every single annoyance or worry about none.

I think also that “moral relativism” might still preclude equating Schadenfreud with actually carrying out the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Until then, of course, size matters.Plus, if the US wants to remain the greatest superpower, it better learn to take a punch without flinching, much less whining like a baby. Take a look at how the Brits responded to July 7.

Yeah, it’s a term conservatives often throw out when they want to freak out equally over matters 1000x different in magnitude.

Of course in an idealistic universe when we’re all Gods, the worries of the smallest gnat will be as important as those of goliaths. Despicable? Ah yes, so many despicables to categorize, so little time. Did you know some 4 million or so died in the Congo in the last 10 years? Most Americans don't - too busy being traumatized by 9/11.

It’s certainly easier to hold them to higher moral standards when I’m living in luxury.

I’m sure no one ever celebrated the dropping of the atomic bombs.

I’m sure Texans never celebrated the stealing of Texas.

I’m sure no one ever gleefully played cowboy lording it over the Indians.

I’m sure no one ever celebrated Sherman’s march to the sea.

With all those despicable wars and atrocities last century, somehow 9/11 this century is the apple of everyone’s eye. (Especially given the efforts Clinton made to try and make some progress). But I don't really expect Palestinians to be happy with their lot or cheering the world on the other side of the pond - they're not quite hooked into the financial establishment. And there hasn't been much additional effort to bring them into the fold since 9/11, so I'm not sure why you'd be surprised they still celebrate it.And while the world goes to hell in a handbasket, the worst thing in the world is that a liberal made a smarmy remark on the 6th anniversary of 9/11? Sorry, that's moral irrelevance. Again, hundreds of thousands incarcerated for drugs, sitting in prison for years, and we make stupid prison rape jokes. Dozens of US soldiers die each month and 10 times that many are wounded, but as Rep. Boehner states, "It's a small price to pay..." Isn't that much more callous than a stupid 9/11 joke? But 9/11's our baby, we have to dote over it.

Well, I don’t see many motherlodes of moral riches around.

Yeah, it’s a shame that the only thing Palestinians can rejoice in is the destruction of the WTC.
