Israel’s PR Problem

Noah Pollak of Azure has written a very insightful piece on Israel’s PR problem and suggests some reforms to address it.
While I agree with Noah’s assessment and recommendations, he is missing a crucial piece of the puzzle: the role of citizen journalists, such as bloggers. It is imperative that the Israeli government and public relations apparatus recognize the crucial role played by citizen journalists, and ensure that information is readily and speedily available to us.

I agree that the government should recognize the blogosphere as an important conduit. However, what would it be a conduit for? First Israel has to stop taking responsibility for things it did not do, and give solid information showing innocence both to the regular press and bloggers.
Also, there has to be the recognition that the BBC cannot veto an Israeli military action. In the end Israel will be demonized no matter what. Forget the PR war, lets win the war on the ground.

The Israeli government is already embracing RSS feeds on some of their sites, but not all.
Perhaps if Pro-Israel/Jewish bloggers approached the government, and asked for the same privileges as the press (i.e. access to certain info, a chance to interview government officials, etc.) it may help shed some positive light on Israel.
