They see they have large populations, so much money and comfortable lives. what does a drunkard do with lots of money? they drink more, scream more, kill more, try to get more respect and "honor" by dominating others. Iranian Islamic regim only started talking about wiping Israel off the map when the oil prices went up. it made them think the time for Islam dominating the world has arrived. Mr.Ploker is ignoring many many facts. More oil revenues only make Arabs and Moslems in general to feel more proud of their power. I would like to add a few comments:The focus of the article also seems to imply that economic growth/shrinkage is the end all and be all and if the economics are right than everything else will fall into place.The problem with that thinking is that it does not take into account the fervent ideological and religious beliefs held by both sides. The comment of “Those who prefer to keep dozens of West Bank settlements over the opening of Israeli embassies in Riyadh and Qatar and over opening the Saudi and Libyan market to Israeli exports are anti-Zionist in my view" does not take into account that Jews in the establishment of a state in Israel as opposed to Uganda or some other local have foregone an easier and more economically rich life for a more spiritual/true homeland/freedom environment.On the other hand Arabs have foregone economic growth and benefit in favor of death and destruction. For example the hot houses that were left in place in Gaza after negotiations and significant dollars changing hands and were supposed to help boost the economy...what happened to those again.....In addition, Israel gave up a vast oil field in the Sinai in favor for peace, so what does that tell you about the character of the People of Israel.Lastly, the Israeli markets are focused on the growth areas of the future; technology and international financial services (which are fast growing sectors to name a few). We will be fine and do not need to give up survival for some extra dollars. I also agree with the assessment that oil as a form of energy may very well be short lived. Technology however, won’t be.
