Dear Colleague Elder (fancy meeting you here), I submit another explanation of this phenomena: there is a shortage of Israeli flags in the general area of the university, and somebody with entrepreneurial gene should immediately open a shop selling exclusively Israeli flags and other memorabilia.

Thanks for following up on this story and the hat tip. The editorial, and the comments below it are disturbing. Unfortunately, they are not surprising, given what students are taught at UM Dearborn.

Having attended college, and diligently reading college newspapers, I’ve come to the conclusion that the person with the lowest SAT scores from the most rural, isolated homes are the ones allowed to write editorials regarding anything dealing with common sense. All offense intended unfortunately. On every subject.
I wonder if the Saudi Flag was flying there too.

This Univeristy of Michigan?The same Univeristy of Michigan where Juan Cole is professor of history?The same University of Michigan which produces crap research like this?I'm shocked, I tell you. Shocked!
