There is a close connection between fighting terrorism and the development of alternative energy. Unfortunately in America, the Bush administration has a vested interest in the oil companies, and creates policies designed to scuttle alternative energy projects (even going so far a to remove tax breaks for hybrids in favor of a break for companies buying suvs).
