The Palis already have a state. As Jeff pointed out, its name is Jordan. And someday, we will send them packing, along with Israel's current Arab citizens. It's just a matter of time.

Jim,

A 2 state solution was propsed in 1948 by the world and accepted by the jewish state. That dream was destroyed when several arab armies converged on israel to drive the jews into the ocean. Even today a 2 state solution is not viable because the palestinians only want a one state solution. In fact one of the sticking points to even getting a joint statement out was the refusal by the palestinian team to recognize a jewish state.....it is impossible to develop a 2 state solution in this environment.

I thought he was pushing a saudi peace plan, whom he is on his way to meet to get approval. Such as when he backpedaled after the ethanol line in the state of the union and had to apologize? Or it's condi's idea.
Without going into the fallacy of "two-states", in literal terms(ahem jordan), I don't see the courage or originality. To me it's another sell-out on foreign policy. That's my angle. I'm not a professor at Columbia or anything.
It's also amusing that the arab world protests the presidents visit, while he's working to give them what they tell us they want. Are they protesting two states?
PS. Watch Iran be completely off the table as soon as he returns home. Just a guess.

Um, well looks like I'm in the uncomfortable position of defending our president. I'm not used to this, but here goes. I think our president showed enormous courage for saying the things he did on his recent trip to Israel. The Palestinians are a reality; they aren't going anywhere. There needs to be a two-state solution: Israel for the Jews and Palestine for the Arabs. The U.S. and our allies can help out, but the deal needs to be worked out between Israelis and Palestinians. Just like Bush said. You see, even a retarded, deaf, dumb and blind squirrel will find a nut once in awhile.

I thought as a lame duck, the prez would've kept on his path of doing whatever he wants. No need for a legacy or any popular will. I don't know if this is because of Condi, or the Arabian Kings, or what, but Bush doing this peace plan and creating a legacy seems completely out of left field to me. I was not expecting this embarrassment.
I'm used to disappointment, but this is a big one.

Hey yeah, right -- on behalf of America, and as a GW Bush supporter for the majority of his administration, I want to apologize right now for the whole Mid-East Peace Plan thingy... I kinda hoped that would be strictly a Democratic presidential failing; but you can't have everything.

These things always end up trying to equalize Palestinian and Israeli grievances and -- more tellingly -- acts of violence / reprisal. I am surprised at how "out of touch" I seem to be with many in my community, and surprised, too, that I just can't seem to see both sides as being equivalent.

And me an algebra teacher, too!

Oh well; maybe it's also because I am thoroughly conversant in the field of inequalities as well...
