I often think that the Arabs perceive history backwards. Remember that Israel was attacked for its crimes against the "Palestinian people". The mistreatment of Jews in Arab countries was also a reaction to the establishment of Israel, despite the fact that Jews and other minorities have been mistreated in the Arab world for decades and centuries before practical Zionism was even feasible. And the glorious future of the Islamic world also appears to lie in the past and Al Qaeda are trying to resurrect it.
