Good site, keep after it. My only comment–in 1963, French was a premier language for international diplomacy, French couture/cuisine was taken very seriously–as were the French themselves–and afforded a high degree of international respect for virtually nothing actually achieved (with very few exceptions, e.g., Albert Camus and a few others)…
And so it went until a Hollywood producer hired an English actor and the next year, The Pink Panther came out. We live in a time of media horseshit. But the most powerful weapon of all now is ridicule of the hilarious variety. Who will be the Pal Clouseau? (Make that Chief Inspector Clouseau….) I am not sure but let us usher him in as quickly as possible. There is nothing so powerful as the unsuccessfully suppressed giggle–even before the motherfuckers can get their lying mouths open. Laughter, my friend. Laughter….

Dave, you got the real story! That’s right, the promotion of the Hamas-wants-to-rule-the-world story just promotes the Condi-Livni (and neoconservative) myth that the solution is about strengthening “moderates” Fatah while discrediting “extremists” Hamas. All the folks who focused on Hamas are just making talking to Fatah look that much better. You are more wise, you see that Fatah is just as genocidal, but that it’s tactics are different. Good for you, you are rare in your insight!

I think Israel should negotiate with the PA. I seem to have a different idea of what “negotiate” means than Mr. Olmert.
It is not a negotiation when the PA asks for concessions and offers nothing in return. The PA not only dosen’t make concessions, it is incapable of carrying out anything it agrees to.
When they are ready to be a serious player, then negotiate.
