The way the Iranians handled this is precisely why we are in so much trouble. We have authority figures that practically rape women, and we do absolutely nothing. Meanwhile their police chief sleeps with prostitutes, something routinely done in all Western societies, and not only is his career finished, but he will likely end up in jail. While I cannot know for certain, I suspect that he is not the only politician in his country to enjoy the use of prostitutes. The odds are pretty good that many others of the elite do so (else how could the prostitutes make a living?). Further, that his consorting with prostitutes did not lead to his arrest, rather it was used as a pretext to get rid of him. The pretext used as well as the reaction to it is significant in that reveals a great deal about the mindset of the society. Look at Spitzer, the man illegally used the NY State Police as his personal spies against the legislature, treated many people in industry like animals, finally he was revealed to be consorting with a prostitute, and was removed from office. Is he under arrest for breaking the law? No. Will he be arrested? Don't make me laugh. The reaction of society? Most people are more outraged that he dropped six grand on her for an hour than anything else.
