Big Notes

Inflation gone wild.

Zimbabwe has introduced a new half-a-billion dollar bank note in a bid to tackle cash shortages fed by rampant inflation, the central bank said today.

The $500,000,000 note is worth $A2.61c.

“Introducing the new 500,000,000 bearer cheque for your convenience,” read a Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe full-page advert in the state daily, The Herald, displaying specimens of the new note.

The note, comes into circulation 10 days after the introduction of a quarter-of-a-billion one early this month.

* Dr Evil from the Austin Powers movies, and not Robert Mugabe, although I could understand the confusion

    Iran also has inflation.

These things can work against a country, in the same way a huge earthquake is now shaking the Chinese. In other words, nature provides the vehicles of death. Or? Financial destruction.

There really is more than one way to kill things.

That africa is a pit is nothing new. The world has seen a lot of races; many of them “less than par.” And, there’s not much you can do to improve things. Do you know why? The ancient greeks, when they talked of Utopia, chose a word that means NON-EXISTENT. There is no such place.

And, in other news, the world of journalism has met its match. The Internet collects more stuff. And, people can really range over it, not locked in by borders or oceans.

Now. How many coin collectors are there, who will throw Mugabe/Zimbabwe two-dollar bills, just to own a piece of the billion dollar rock? I have no idea. Maybe, soon to come to a Monopoly board near you?

And, now, think of how much a $2 bullet costs in Zimbabwe. While a bunch of diplomatic pants dancers won’t resolve a thing. So, the problem continues …

I’ll bet that 100 of those notes, left blank and bound into a notepad, are more valuable in reality than 100 half-billion Z$ notes.

The printed notes are useless for writing, or even wiping your arse ( the ink probably runs ).
