Israeli and Jewish News – Sunday June 1st
Updated throughout the day
The Sunday Times has reported that Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni worked for the Mossad in the 1980s, during a series of missions it ran to kill palestinian terrorists across Europe. Now she just meets them.
Palestinian terrorists have wounded an IDF soldier, as well as showing us some more rocket love.
Israel is reportedly concerned that relations between Syria and European countries are thawing following many months during which the Syrian regime was internationally isolated. Which is very rich, considering it was the Israeli government itself that began talking with the Syrians at a time they were isolated.
Israel’s answer to Archie Bunker has died.

For what it’s worth. Barry Goldwater is the first politician to try to run for the American presidency (1964), from the CONSERVATIVE position. (With the GOP usually run by the country club set.)
In 1964, LBJ swept into office. And, took a crap. Since he couldn’t win another term. (Nor could the veep to FDR get “more than one.”)
Politics is a “funny business,” here in the States. In 1948, for some reason, the country-club set decided that with FDR dead, and Truman in office, they’d run Thomas Dewey. True. Dewey lost in 1944. And, then, FDR was close to death. And, the person they didn’t approach? General MacArthur. (Yes, MacArthur was a true hero. America’s Arik Sharon. More or less. Since Sharon was closer to Patton.) But I digress.
Truman won. Dewey lost. By 1952, the GOP was desperate for a White House win, so they went out of their tent to Eisenhower. Who wasn’t anything like a GOP’ster. He opened government up wide. A democrat couldn’t have done a better job!
Well, in 1964, Goldwater swamped the “country club.” But then? He didn’t make the sale, nationally.
I mention this because Goldwater was ahead of his time! Today’s atmosphere around politics isn’t really as liberal as you think. (That’s just the media unable to grasp the changes on the ground.)
As to Archie Bunker, what is really funny is that the show was based on a British hit. And, the hollywood powers thought Americans would HATE Archie! HA. HA. Not true.
While in Israel, for a time, Lapid represented a SECULAR MOVEMENT, that blew him into office with 15 seats. And, then? He saw his grandmother in a Palestinian woman, whose house had been taken down. And, he felt sad. It didn’t match what Israelis wanted to hear. And, his party got blown out of office.
Now? Of all people Efie Eitan’s Pensioners blew into the Knesset. And, Shimoni decided he wouldn’t be back if he didn’t make a deal with the russian mafia.
Meanwhile, I think Lapid was onto something. But like Barry Goldwater, when he won, he was just ahead of his time.
