Indeed, naive liberals, as always. And I’m no fan of Bush nor McCain. I still remember the US Democratic Party before it resembled Israel’s Meretz Party.

Joshua, as I mentioned, I understand that Obama was looking to find a place in the African American community – I just don’t think it had to be Trinity United.

I know that black churches have very charismatic preachers – and great gospel choirs, if I may say so – in this case, though it wasn’t how Wright said it – it was what he said.

Thats not bad judgement, for that length of time it’s a concious decision. It’s not like there is only one church in the USA so you either approve of the message or you find yourself a new preacher.

Politicians are always the same. What they say and what they do are usually unrelated. If Obama gets voted in it’s only a matter of time before his mask slips a little further.

Oh, and Canada, Trinity UCC had something Obama was looking for: a sense of community. I’m not really sure that could be said for many other black churches in Chicago. As it is, you have to remember that the black-church culture is much different from the white-church culture, especially in that the pastors do engage on prophesying and talk provocatively, in an almost Pentecostal-like manner. I would be hard-pressed to find a black preacher who doesn’t have a little Jeremiah Wright in him.

Like so many Jews I was also very left wing – union shop steward, cared about the poor, the disenfranchised, the downtrodden, blah, blah,blah (still do,actually) – we were all raised on the same soap box, whether in New York or Montreal.

The trouble is, Stan, the left doesn’t care about us – in fact, the left despises us.

Do I believe in guilt by association? In some cases, yes. For example, Obama chose this particular church with this particular philosophy and this particular preacher. I understand that he wanted to integrate into the African American community – that he had no roots in the African American experience. But he could have chosen any church and he chose Trinity United.

Now, it’s not as if they have a hidden agenda – as Rev. Wright says, it’s all there on their website. Or you can watch the videos of Wright’s sermons. Nope, no surprise here.

So really, Stan, I fail to understand how American Jews simply dismiss the fact the Obama attended services at Wright’s church for 20 years and that he brought his children to this church and exposed them to a weekly tirade of racism, hatred, and hypocrisy.

Speaking of hypocrisy, let me share a bit of one of my favourite Wright hypocrisies . In this video (available on utube) Rev. Wright is ranting on and on about Israel and at one point he does a dramatic, “Black people get reeeeeeeeeeeeeeal scared when they hear the word………….Israel”. And then he stops, he mops his weary brow, he looks around… and the cheering and whatever breaks out from all corners of the congregation. They love it. But I have to tell you it made me think.

It made me think that African American people should get alot more scared when they hear the words “Southern Sudan” – where Black Africans are still captured by Arabs and sold into slavery http://www.iheu.org/node/1539 Or maybe the word Darfur. That word scares alot of people. Black Muslim Africans in Darfur are being systematically raped and murdered by the hundreds of thousands – a kind of combined get more oil land, mixed with ethnic cleansing. And who is doing this raping and killing? Why it’s Darfur’s Muslim Arab minority. (I guess that’s why John Kerry thinks Obama will be successful at neotiating with the Arabs – they have such respect for Black people)

But I digress. So how is it that Rev. Wright rants on and on about Israel -and never mentions Sudan or Darfur. Doesn’t it bother him and his buddy Louis F. that Black Muslims are being raped and murdered by the thousands and Black Christians are being sold into slavery (or raped or murdered)?

Trinity United’s statement of faith is very clear. “We are an African people, and remain “true to our native land,” the mother continent, the cradle of civilization”. Really.

So how to explain that Obama sat through years of anti-Israel, anti-semitic, anti-white, totally un-Christian spewing of hatred and total disregard for the church’s statement of faith…this is 20 years, now…and still publicly honoured this man and his church… until political expediency forced him to kiss Wright good-bye.

Now some might say that he showed great loyalty to his old friend and mentor by trying to downplay or justify Wright’s tirades.

But why would Obama choose a man like this for a mentor and why would he attempt to protect him from the contempt he deserves?

Obviously, if he saw him as a mentor (Obama’s title, not mine) he admired and respected him and his values. As for why he dumped him – well, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist, as they say.

So again I have to ask you – how is it that this is the man who New York Jews endorse?

Stan, times have changed. The Christian right isn’t screaming for Jewish blood – they are the good guys now. It’s the left, Stan, the left that would like to see Israel disappear – and the Jews with it. Check out the responses to the following Sam Stein article at Huffington Post http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/06/04/lieberman-carries-mccains_n_105179.html – the left doesn’t like us anymore, Stan. We haven’t been the flavour of the month for a long, long time.

So you think 75% of New York Jews will vote for Obama? I don’t think so, Stan – I sure hope not. I thought we were all smarter than that.

As indicated by previous elections, more than 75 percent of us will vote for Barak Obama for president (low estimate).

How tragically naive and naively tragic.

We will continue to support Israel and reject the dhimmi status offered to us by the Christian right through the Republican party.

I have certain strong resentments about the Christian support but just how do you see it as some form of dhimmitude?
