It is with great sadness I have to report the passing of Dave’s father

I have been asked to let the readers of Israellycool know that, after his long battle with cancer, Dave’s father passed away on July 4th.

Dave is en route to Australia to attend the funeral and sit shiva with his mom and sister.

    Dear Dave,

This is horrible news! I remember hearing your father in the last Podcast you produced. It was nice listening to the two of you. I wish you much comfort in the beautiful memories you have of your father during these difficult days and also, of course, after. May you have the strength. My condolences to you and your family.

    Kindest regards,

    Suzanne

All of us who read Israellycool know two things about Aussie Dave. He has a big heart, and a lot of courage. It is not very often that you find one person with both these attributes, who can also be a through and through mensch.

I have just returned from the levaya of his father, and I can only say that Dave put both his heart and his courage together to deliver a hesped for his father that was a Kiddush Hashem to his memory, and also to the memory of his grandparents and many other family victims of the Shoah.

Dave lives in and defends the land of Israel, he lives his tradition, and he inherited values and a heritage from his family that is the greatest gift any father could impart to his son. As such a living legacy, and with such a combination of sadness and pride today, Dave gave an example of Kibbud Av of the likes I have never seen.

No matter how much one prepares for the loss of a family member, even when there is time to come to terms with terminal illness, we can never be ready. Dave, every moment is precious, including all those moments that you take to give us the chance to stay informed about the real Israel that you are helping to build. I really appreciate that Dave.

A friend of mine passed away with the same illness. The thought I had at the time of your father’s passing and the cycle of life, is that the love of life we jews have will give you and your family strength. As you look into the mirror on a daily basis you will always know that a part of your father will always be in you. May this give you comfort and strength. Simca bin moshe

  31. NR Stark says:

May you be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem. Having lost parents, the only “comfort” we can take is that it is the natural order of life. G-d forbid it be reversed. CONTINUE your blog in his memory and your defense of K’lal Yisroel show enable your father to have continued aliyahs in Heaven.

I know Aussie Dave is an Aussie, so he probably doesn’t know this, But I hope it brings some comfort to know that on July 4th, his father shares the same passing date as John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. Two great thinkers and founders of the modern day democracy and freedom. If nothing more, if anything, at least it’s a significant date in the world for people who enjoy life, and freedom, and all that goes with it for those who have that in common.

    I’m not good at condolences.
