Zooming In

As I posted yesterday, the foreign press photographers are portraying child-murderer Samir Kuntar as anything but the monster he is, taking photo after photo of small children holding up his picture.

Today, we have this stark example of the lengths they will go to.

A Palestinian boy (L) holds a picture depicting Lebanese prisoner Samir Qantar during a protest in Gaza City calling for the release of prisoners held in Israeli jails July 7, 2008. REUTERS/Ismail Zaydah

Despite the fact the picture contains many people holding up pictures of different prisoners terrorists, somehow the caption refers only to the palestinian boy who is holding up the picture of Kuntar. The absurdity of this is amplified by the fact the caption writer has to note the child’s location, given he is but one of a crowd of people.

Reuters, could you get any more obvious?

I agree its nauseating. In fact here in NYC the radio news network referred to this guy as a ” reported terrorist & murderer” Are you kidding ! he was convicted an sent to prison ! The boy holding the poster is about the age of his victim. ANIMAL !

I have to say, even if this child is his family member, there’s no excuse for this. but then again, you have this kind of thing all over, unfortunately. As I commented on the related blog, about the victims, the victims seem to get lost, especially where the media is concerned. Unless the victim, or victim’s family, makes a concerted effort to stay in the public eye, which many understandably don’t want to do, all that’s left for the media as a ‘fresh story’ is whatever the criminal is doing. at least, and this is mighty small consolation to anyone, it’s being publicized that he’s being released. Here in the states, too often, convicted felons are released and it’s not made very public (if at all), and people don’t know that this person is free, or what they’ve done, and often they re-offend. it’s tragedy compounded, and so often it’d be avoidable if the people were made to serve the sentence they received, NO MATTER WHAT.
