First International JBloggers Convention

';

Aussie Dave

Some of you may already know about the First International JBloggers Convention, to take place in Jerusalem in a number of weeks. There are a number of panel discussions with bloggers behind Jewish blogs such as Treppenwitz, Jewlicious, Israel Matzav and Oleh Girl. Also, some anglo-Israeli bloggers are also being sent to the US (and return flight back) on one of their aliya flights, to accompany an oleh (immigrating) family and blog their experience.

I was invited to be on one of the panel discussions, but apparently did not respond in a timely enough manner since I was sitting Shiva (in mourning) for my father. I was not, however, offer a trip to the US and back, which I would like to think was more because I am not American than anything else (although if truth be told, I can ill afford to take any more time off work).

I have sent a mail to one of the organizers and offered to be on a panel discussion if they still want me. After all, I have been a big supporter of Jewish blogs in the past, having founded the JIB awards and having been involved in other efforts to leverage the power of these blogs for the good of Israel.

Because I just know you were all wondering.

    I got a kick from the fact that the organizers of JBlogger f2f with NBN think it’s unique to send jbloggers. I returned to Israel with two flights.

    Nefesh B’Nefesh sent you to cover the stories of olim chadashim?

    They subsidized my flight in exchange for my writing about the trip (I needed to go to visit my parents in NY) in various publications and my blogs. I had to hustle and get promises from the publications. I don’t know if they do this any more. After two trips, I no longer qualified.
    It really was thrilling.
    Of course, “real” journalists got better deals, but I’m thankful for the opportunities.

    Sounds like a good deal.

    It’s a shame there is no NBN from Australia. Perhaps then I would stand a chance.

    Hopefully they will understand the circumstances and give you a break on the deadline.

    Convince NBN to make an Australian flight, convince a bunch of people to make aliyah, and then offer to write about it! :)

    Everyone will be happy.

    I’m looking forward to watching the convention online… should be interesting.

    Unlike my wife, I never got a flight but I am on a panel. So, any ideas I can quote about what is the next level of Jewish blogging? or how to promote blogging?

    Do I get to be on your blog roll now?
