Imagine a child with moderate "retardation"--- could learn to speak, read, write. Imagine him growing with never having the choice of whether to eat sunny-side up egg or scrambled eggs. Of never choosing what activity he and his friends will do. As I heard from someone who KNOWS, the Israeli Arabs have rather good institutions (since they don't want to keep the kids at home), but any institution is not a place for a child. A few Arabs are beginning to buck to "throw the kid away " message... but few. It is a shame for ANY disabled child to have to go to an institution. As I heard from someone who KNOWS, the Israeli Arabs have rather good institutions (since they don’t want to keep the kids at home), but any institution is not a place for a child.

"I am actually surprised the couple did not just strap explosives to their son and daughter, send them to the nearest checkpoint and have them blow themselves up." I'm not. It seems like the reason they did what they did is because they feared that their children would be laughed at or killed if other Arabs found out about them. They are victims of that society (literally) and while they obviously shouldn't have treated their children as they have, sending their children to checkpoints would have been the opposite of what they wanted to do. Perhaps before we solve the "Israeli-Arab" conflict we should solve the Arab society problem.
