I have a great sentimental attachment to Acco since i went to Beit Seffer Le'Ktzinay Yam many years ago in the 60's, and whenever I'm in Israel I spend quite a bit of time in the old city and always marvel at the relative harmony that exists there between Arabs and Jews. But now it seems like Acco is also caught in the cycle of hatred and violence that doesn't spare anywhere and anyone in this beautiful country. I don't think reacting to provocation with riots or arson is the right way but we have to keep in mind that this was absolutely no "harmless disturbance of holiday quiet", the way it was portrayed in the European media. People felt threatened. It is dishonest to leave out that piece of information. Let's not forget that we had a string of attacks on Jews using vehicles in the last few months. The point is that any car, driving toward crowds of children riding their bikes on roads that are EXPECTED to be car free would look like a terror attack. It’s not about the kind of phony offense of religious sensibilities that even the Jerusalem Post is touting. It’s about threat to life.
