The Day in Israel: Sun Feb 22nd, 2009

Click refresh to see new updates during the day.

Likud leader Binyamin Netanyahu is expected to offer Kadima counterpart Tzipi Livni “full partnership” in a future cabinet, joint power in drafting the framework for the government’s policies, and two of the government’s most prominent portfolios (from among defense, finance and foreign relations). Oh, and he’s apparently going to suspend talks with other coalition partners, such as Shas and the right-wing parties, until after he concludes his talks with Livni.

No word yet on whether Livni, who rushed to the media to announce that Kadima would remain in opposition, feels like a bit of a goose. But members of her own party are certainly viewing her that way.

Updates (Israel time; most recent at top)

10:03PM: True to their record in lying and deception, the Free Gaza terror supporters have set up a YouTube channel to disseminate their anti-Israel propaganda – a YouTube channel deceptively called IDFSpokespeoplesunit and containing a word-for-word copy of the description of the authentic IDFSpokeperson’s channel. The only giveaway signs that this is not the IDF channel are the anti-Israel videos, and a link to the Free Gaza website under the channel description.

7:53PM: The IAEA is pleased that Iran is cooperating well with UN nuclear inspectors to help ensure it does not again understate the amount of uranium it has enriched. Which was probably just an oversight, and not a deliberate attempt to move forward with their nuclear ambitions surreptitiously. So everyone can rest easy now.

7:35PM: Meanwhile, coming soon: a movie theatre near you.

6:55PM: Speaking of dreams, this guy wants to bite us.

Bite me.

6:50PM: We all have our dreams.

Some dream of world peace.

Others dream of really making a difference.

Then there’s Bar Refaeli.

5:26PM: Here’s a great site monitoring the attacks on Israel, both during and post Operation Cast Lead.

5:13PM: Here’s what we missed since my last update:

  • Palestinian terrorists fired more mortar shells at IDF soldiers patrolling the border fence.
  • Likud leader Binyamin Netanyahu said he would not bullied into forming a unity government; vowed to catch the perpetrators who gave him that wedgie.
  • Netanyahu, after a meeting with Lieberman (the American one) vowed to work with Barack (the American one)
  • Some 450 Kadima activists and mayors signed a petition in support of Kadima Chairwoman Tzipi Livni’s decision to sit in the opposition.
  • The democratically elected government of Gaza exercised their democratic right to sentence a man to death by firing squad.

1:12PM: How’s this for an analogy of the palestinians’ rocket and mortar shells attacks on Israel, and our response?

Yes, I know it’s not perfect (the palestinian attacks are more than “annoying”, they can be lethal in our case). But there are similarities.

9:40AM: Obviously not perturbed by our “disproportionate” response, palestinian terrorists fired another Qassam a short time ago.

5:55AM: It was remiss of me not to mention that the palestinians fired a Qassam rocket late last night. It hit near Ashkelon, did not cause any damage or casualties, but scared the hell out of a lot of people.
