The Day in Israel: Tues Feb 24th, 2009

Click refresh to see new updates during the day.

  • With the US economy struggling, US Secretary of Hilary Clinton plans to announce a $900 million pledge of US aid for Gaza and the “good” terrorists of the PA. But don’t worry. The money is not going to Hamas.
  • Likud leader and Prime Minister Designate Binyamin Netanyahu will continue to woo Kadima’s Tzipi Livni.

Updates (Israel time; most recent at top)

10:45PM: Oops, I almost forgot. We’re also supporting the Turkish mafia to spread prostitution and drugs throughout Turkey.

Sorry, our tentacles are really everywhere, so it’s really hard to keep up.

10:40PM: When we’re not developing cancerous foods for export to the Arab world, or conspiring to destroy the Muslim economy, we’re fomenting conflict in Darfur!

Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, the current African Union president, on Tuesday accused “foreign forces” including Israel of being behind the Darfur conflict.

Judges from the International Criminal Court are due to announce on March 4 whether they will issue a warrant for the arrest of Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir over allegations that he masterminded genocide in Sudan’s Darfur region. UN diplomats have told Reuters the warrant will be issued.

But Gaddafi, addressing a meeting on ways to expand cooperation between the United Nations and African Union, urged the Court to stop its proceedings against Bashir:

“Why do we have to hold President Bashir or the Sudanese government responsible when the Darfur problem was caused by outside parties, and Tel Aviv [Israel], for example, is behind the Darfur crisis?”

Gaddafi suggested without presenting any evidence that the Israeli military was among those stoking the conflict:

“It is not a secret. We have found evidence proving clearly that foreign forces are behind the Darfur problem and are fanning its fire,” Gaddafi said, according to the Libyan state news agency Jana.

“We discovered that some of the main leaders of the Darfur rebels have opened offices in Tel Aviv and hold meetings with the military there to add fuel to the conflict fire.”

Oh, and we’re also behind the numerous confusing spellings of Gaddafi / Gaddaffi /Qaddafi / Qadhafi, as well as advising him on what to wear.

10:22PM: Here’s the footage of Bishop Badass:

8:48PM: I’m thinking he didn’t read the Bishop Instruction Manual too closely.

A Holocaust-denying bishop flew out of Argentina under a government expulsion order on Tuesday after scuffling with a reporter at the airport.

A local television station showed Richard Williamson raising his fist toward a reporter, then shoving him into a pole with his shoulder as he hurried through Buenos Aires’ Ezeiza international airport to catch a flight for London.

8:20PM: Shimon Peres at today’s opening session of the 18th Knesset:

“Fifty years ago I was elected to the Knesset. I entered this House with trepidation and great expectations. I have loved this House ever since. It is a tremendously animated place; there is never a drop of boredom.”

Yeah, unlike those television interviews that can drive a man to sleep.

8:00PM: Knesset factions heads at today’s swearing-in ceremony of the 18th Knesset.

Say “Cheese Disfunctional political system!”

3:58PM: There are certain things in life that are certain. Things like death..taxes…Egyptian clerics talking sh*t.

Now excuse me while I go back to developing those cancerous twinkies for export to the Arab world.

3:53PM: Israel’s Social Affairs Minister Isaac Herzog has urged US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to shun the upcoming UN World Conference against Racism, otherwise known as Durban 2.

3:17PM: Head Hamashole “The Wart” Mahmoud Zahar:

“It’s our right to bring in everything – money and arms. We will not give anyone any commitment on this subject.”

Aussie Dave:

“It’s our right to send a hellfire missile up your rear end.”

3:12PM: Here’s the Sky News interview with Bahrain’s Crown Prince Sheikh Salman Bin Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa, in which he said Britain has been too pro-Israel (see 5:42AM update).

Also interesting is his solution for Middle East peace “You give up land for peace. Land that you haven’t already built on.” (see from 00:48). This seems to be an (unintentional?) acknowledgment that Israel need not give up any land upon which there are already people living.

1:10PM: Israeli President Shimon Peres speaking to President of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Pöttering:

“Europe and the international community, by expressing compassion for the situation in Gaza and compassion for Hamas’ acts of terror, is not helping to improve the situation, but is deceiving the Palestinians.”

10:40AM: Palestinian sources have reportedly said that significant progress has been made in talks for the release of Gilad Shalit.

8:50AM: Behold, our latest Zionist Weapon of Death!

5:42AM: Bahrain’s Crown Prince Sheikh Salman Bin Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa: Britain is too pro-Israel.

Aussie Dave: Bahrain’s Crown Prince is off his rocker
