I remember back when I was in Yeshiva in Jerusalem, and this hadn't started in the U.S., the Brtish kids just assumed that it was worse in the U.S. because of the (false) stereotype of the U.S. as a violent society. Things like this taght me not to trust newspaper reports about the internal affairs of other countries. I know this was true once, at least.
